Forklift Components in More Detail

There are numerous components that make up a forklift. The lift truck's major parts include the truck frame, the engine parts, the tilt cylinders, the overhead guard and the wheels. Furthermore, a lift truck has various kinds of attachments. All the components that make up a lift truck are all important as they work together to make the equipment's operation possible. The subsequent paragraphs describe several of the lift truck parts in detail.

The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the lift truck's metal roof. It sits over the cab area and protects the equipment operator whilst he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard ensures that nothing falling from above onto the truck will damage the controls inside the cab or harm the operator. The overhead guard is vital to the frame assembly on various units.

The Mast - Mounted either to the forklift frame or the front axle, the mast is the vertical forklift component made of interlocking rails. The mast enables the forks to move up and down whilst providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails may either have rollers or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast can be operated: chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor or hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders.

Forklift Carriage - the forks and different other attachments are mounted to the carriage. The carriage is connected to the mast directly to the hydraulic cylinder or it is connected by chains. To be able to enable the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage may have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.

Load Back Rest - When the carriage is lifted to full height, there is a back rest made of metal that keeps a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either bolted or welded on to the carriage.

Forklift Attachments - There are various kinds of attachments which could be fixed directly to the lift truck's carriage. Forks are the most common kind of attachment. Additionally, there are L-shaped members, rollers, rotators, pole handlers, roll clamps and and all that. These various attachments are handy for moving different kinds of loads.
