Skyjack Safety

A scissor lift is a particular kind of industrial machinery which is utilized for "positioning personnel, their equipment and their tools," based on Skyjack. Anybody who is getting ready to operate this type of machine must familiarize themselves with the suggested operational and safety procedures suggested by the manufacturer in order to stay safe prior to attempting to operate this equipment. It could be devastating to the operator themselves and any bystanders causing serious injuries if the safety procedures are not followed.

Area

In the best situation, scissor lifts work at optimum levels on totally level ground. The area has to be checked and cleared of any loose debris prior to driving a scissor lift over a particular terrain. In order to lessen the possibility of the scissor lift tipping over and probably causing the operator to fall from his seat. It is better to avoid steep grades or holes while operating. Bystanders should also remain aware and avoid the operating scissor lift so as to ensure they do not get run over.

Inspection

Before attempting to operate a scissor lift, the user must thoroughly check all the important parts of the machine. The operator can see if all the components are functioning properly before the task is initiated, a functional test is done while the lift is retracted. It is better to complete a daily check on this machine prior to starting the shift and some places even want an inspection to occur at the end of the shift also. Different companies have various policies in place to maintain safety.

Part of the inspection needs to be checking over the tires. These parts obviously add to the movability of the scissor lift and also provide the equipment with a solid foundation. A tire that is faulty or worn could blow and throw the operator from their location on top of scissor lift.
