Narrow aisle forklifts
Narrow aisle forklifts are usually used within warehousing operations. These forklifts are vital machines in the industry since their small size and excellent maneuverability allow warehouses to make the most of storing space. They can easily negotiate aisles as narrow as 1.8 meters wide, whereas typical lift trucks require at least 3.4 meters of aisle width.
The two types are "narrow aisle forklift" and the "very narrow aisle forklift". The former need 2.4 meters - 3 meters in aisle width, while the latter can function in a 1.8 meters wide space.
The design of a narrow aisle forklift includes forks positioned at right angles to the truck body. The trucks do not have to face the shelves, but instead drive straight down the aisle picking up loads to the side. This design feature is the key to their suitability for limited spaces.
Several very narrow aisle forklifts come with optical or wire guidance systems which make sure that the forklift moves in a straight line down the aisle, that leaves the operator free to concentrate on load picking and placement.
The cushion tires that come with these kinds of lifts are made of solid rubber. The hard tires perform well on paved, smooth surfaces and concrete floors. Narrow aisle forklifts have electric motors which is best used within indoor places. Propane-powered models are available too.
